Why You Should Visit Walt Disney World in the Summer

Why You Should Visit Walt Disney World in the Summer

When most people think about planning a Walt Disney World vacation, they imagine cooler months with lighter crowds. But there’s a strong case to be made for visiting during the summer. If you’re on the fence about braving the Florida heat, here’s why summer might actually be the best time to experience the magic.

1. Longer Park Hours = More Magic

One of the biggest perks of summer visits? Extended park hours. Disney often keeps the parks open later during the summer months, giving you more time to experience rides, shows, parades, and nighttime spectaculars. With more hours in the day, you can take a midday break and still get everything done.

2. New Attractions and Summer-Only Events

Disney frequently rolls out new experiences during the summer. Whether it’s the debut of a new ride, special character meet-and-greets, or seasonal snacks, there’s always something exciting launching in the summer. Plus, limited-time shows and merchandise make your trip feel extra unique.

3. Incredible Resort Pools and Water Parks

Florida summers are hot — and Disney knows it. That’s why their resort pools and two water parks (Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon) are a dream come true during this time of year. You can beat the heat with a morning park visit, a relaxing pool break in the afternoon, and head back for fireworks at night.

4. Lush, Vibrant Atmosphere

Summer brings Disney’s landscaping to life. Parks are in full bloom, with colorful flowers, lush greenery, and a vibrant energy in the air. Everything feels alive — from the music playing down Main Street to the nighttime glow of Cinderella Castle.

5. School’s Out = Easier Family Planning

If you’re traveling with kids, summer might be your best shot. With school out, you don’t have to worry about missed days or scheduling conflicts. It’s easier to coordinate with family and friends, which can mean bigger, more memorable group trips.

6. Pro Tips for Beating the Heat

Yes, it’s hot — but it’s manageable. Disney offers plenty of indoor, air-conditioned attractions, plus water misting stations, shady spots, and cold treats around every corner. Pack cooling towels, stay hydrated, and plan indoor breaks during the hottest hours (usually between 1–4 PM).

Free ice water is always available!

Summer at Walt Disney World isn’t just doable — it’s magical. With longer days, seasonal exclusives, and endless ways to cool off, it might just be your new favorite time to go. Embrace the sunshine, soak up the magic, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Start dreaming today — book your Walt Disney World vacation now and let the countdown to magic begin. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, there’s no summer like a Disney summer. Email me at jenney@imaginationtravel.net to get started planning!

Rotational Dining on Disney Cruise Line

Rotational Dining on Disney Cruise Line

Marvel themed restaurant on the Disney Wish

Disney Cruise Line does dinner dining differently {say that 3 times fast!} than other cruise lines. Each evening, your family is assigned to a certain dining location. You’re also assigned to eat at a certain time – main dining {about 5:45} or second dining {about 8}.

So good!

Once you arrive at the designated restaurant, you’re led to your family’s table number and introduced to your dining team. Now this is where it gets magical! This dining team? They’ll be with you every night! So they’ll learn what you like and don’t like. If your kiddos love chocolate milk, the dining team will make sure it’s ready for them when they get to dinner. You enjoy a coffee with desert? No problem, your dining team will make sure you have it every night. Picky eaters? No problem! The dining team will bring your kids all the Mac and cheese and French fries they want complete with Mickey ketchup.

Deserts are out of this world!

Have allergies or food sensitivities? No one handles those better than Disney Cruise Line!

It’s Disney, so presentation is important.

One of my favorite perks of cruising? You can order as many appetizers, entrees and deserts as you want. Perfect if you’re like me and love to try all the things.

So good!

While your family is enjoying dinner, the other half ship of guests is watching a Broadway style show in the theater. Once you’re done with dinner it’ll be your turn to watch the show while other guests enjoy their dinner.

Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream, Fantasy, Wonder and Magic

Don’t want to be on a schedule for dinner? No worries! Yummy room service is available 24 hours and it’s included in your cruise fare.

Breakfast room service menu that you can preorder.

Best Budget-Friendly Resorts at Disney

Best Budget-Friendly Resorts at Disney

Walt Disney World has three main categories of resorts – value, moderate and deluxe. In each category are several options for your family to enjoy onsite amenities and get the most out of your vacation to the Most Magical Place on Earth.

Today, we’re going to chat about Value resorts. Within this category there are basically three kinds of options – the All Stars, Pop Century/Art of Animation standard rooms and Art of Animation family suites. Every resort in the Value category offers an onsite food court with lots of food options, a resort arcade, onsite Disney transportation, fun pools and a room with 2 queen beds and 1 bathroom. One of the queen beds is a regular bed and the other is a pull down Murphy bed – don’t let that scare you, these can be quite comfortable.

All Stars Movies, Music and Sports are the most budget friendly options on Disney property unless you’re willing to pack a tent and sleep under the starts at the campsites. {Fun for some but definitely not for me.}. Each of the All Star resorts offer bus transportation to all theme parks and Disney Springs. This is typically where high school and large groups stay so keep that in mind. If you’re expecting a quiet, calm environment at your resort, you probably won’t find it here. The All Stars are great for…

  • 2 adults sharing a room who just need a place to sleep
  • a big extended family group looking to use their travel budget for food and fun and not necessarily on the room
  • a high school group looking to travel as inexpensively as possible

Pop Century and Art of Animation are my preferred value resorts. Their rooms are very similar to the rooms at the All Stars but these resorts offer Disney’s newest onsite perk – the Skyliner transporation system. For guests visiting Epcot or Hollywood Studios, the Skyliner can save you precious time in the mornings and at night. Bonus! If you’re traveling with young children, you can keep your stroller open when you use the Skyliner – no need to wake up sleeping babies. Yay! Pop Century and Art of Animation are great for…

  • families with 2 young children
  • 2 adults traveling together who plan to enjoy Epcot and Hollywood Studios

Perhaps the best room setup {and it can be the best value!} are the family suites at Art of Animation. These suites feature a separate bedroom for Mom and Dad with their own bathroom and then a den/kitchenette area that sleeps 4 more people with it’s own bathroom. Yes, 2 bathrooms!! The Holy Grail of family travel! The suites also feature a microwave which isn’t found anywhere else on property {except DVC villas}. Art of Animation suites are great for…

  • family of 5-6
  • family of 4 who just want the extra room and bathroom
  • girls trips

Every value resort has it’s own special theming that kids and Disney enthusiasts love! I would love to help you select the best resort for your next trip. Please email me at jenney@imaginationtravel.net to get started planning!

Private Cabana at Disney’s Castaway Cay

Private Cabana at Disney’s Castaway Cay

Disney’s Castaway Cay is a magical place! This beautiful island in the Bahamas is reserved just for Disney Cruise Line guests. Most Caribbean and Bahamian itineraries will make a stop here so you definitely want to put some thought into how you’ll spend your day here.

A private hammock, floats, an outdoor shower and your own piece of paradise.

My absolute favorite thing to do at Castaway Cay is to rent a private cabana! These exclusive hideaways make a day at Castaway Cay as magical as possible. There are cabanas available on the family beach as well as at Serenity Bay, the adults only beach area. Private cabanas include teak furniture to relax on, a covered inside area complete with ceiling fan, a refrigerator stocked with waters and sodas and a fruit plate, cold wet washcloths, a safe, extra towels, sunscreen, an outdoor shower and floats to use in the water. Sounds amazing right? It really is!!

Each cabana has it’s own welcome sign.

Now for the less magical news, these private cabanas can be hard to get and they’re not cheap. If you’re booked in a Concierge Stateroom or a Platinum Castaway Club Member you might get lucky and grab one when you complete your onboard activities booking. This window opens at certain times depending on your Castaway Club Level and if you’ve made your final payment. This is where booking your cruise through a travel agent can help you know when to be ready. 😉

There is a small wildlife area separating your cabana from the beach at Serenity Bay. On the family beach, the cabanas are directly on the beach – great for kids!
Does it get any better? I don’t think so!

This cabana at Serenity Bay cost about $400 on our last cruise. This is for up to 4 people so it would fun to share with another couple going and that definitely helps with the price. The cabanas at the family beach are more expensive but they also include sand toys for the kids and snorkel gear and life jackets to use. If I know I have a cabana reserved for Castaway Cay then I don’t plan any excursions for that day – I want to get every second out of that cabana that I can. =)

National Coffee Day!

National Coffee Day!

Coffee for two delivered to your stateroom. It’s free!

How anyone can start their day without coffee is a mystery to me. I have at least one cup every morning. Preferably while sitting on my back porch with a puppy in my lap. 🙂

My favorite way to drink coffee is definitely onboard Disney Cruise Line! If I’m not sailing in a concierge stateroom {because the concierge lounge has the BEST coffee machine ever!} then I love to order room service coffee at night. They bring it in a carafe that will keep my coffee warm all night. First thing the next morning I can pour my coffee, add milk and sugar and then sit on my verandah while the ocean goes by.

Room Service onboard Disney Cruise Line is included in your cruise fare. My kids {and I} love to have yummy food and treats brought to our room the whole Cruise. Seriously, I can’t wait to cruise again!!

Disney Cruise Line – What’s Included

Disney Cruise Line – What’s Included

What’s Included on a Disney Cruise!

Let me fill you in on a little secret…my family’s favorite vacation is a Disney Cruise.  We can go anywhere in the world and that’s where they want to go every year.  Sometimes more than once a year.  We LOVE Disney Cruise Line!  In fact, I’m a Platinum Castaway Club member…that means I’ve been on at least 10 Disney cruises so I’m a little familiar with it. 😉

Yes, when you compare a Disney Cruise vs. another cruise line it can seem pricey.  But you get SO MUCH for your money on a Disney Cruise.  Once you pay for your cruise fare, taxes, port fees and gratuities, you don’t need to spend another dime to have a MAGICAL time.

So, here are the top 10 magical amenities included on a Disney Cruise…

  1. Service!  The Disney company is known for it’s service.  Every employee is trained to provide their customers with the absolute best service whether they’re serving your dinner at Palo or keeping the pool deck dry.  Every Cast Member you see offers a smile and a “Have a magical day!” and is always available to help if needed.
  2. Safety!  Let’s face it, in this crazy world safety is often a big priority when planning a family vacation – especially at sea.  You want to know that your family and your children are safe.  Disney Cruise Line is known for putting guest safety first.
  3. Characters!  There are so many characters onboard your Disney ship.  One day as we were sitting by the pool, I looked up and there was Mickey just walking around {I think he may have been on his way to the ice cream!}  Once, we were getting off an elevator and Princess Tiana met us in the hall.  Characters are also available to see at scheduled times if you want those prized autograph and pictures – make sure to see everyone in their pirate gear on Pirate Night!
  4. Movies and Shows!  Each night of your cruise there is a Broadway style show in the theater.  The talent is very impressive and the shows are familiar enough and entertaining enough that my boys even stay interested.  Disney Cruise Line also shows first run movies in the theater onboard.  If you’re lucky enough to be onboard while a movie is premEARing {see what I did there?!} stateside, you’ll get to see it on the ship!
  5. Water Fun!  Every ship has at least 2 pools and 1 slide.  The Disney Dream and Fantasy have the Aquaduck {a water coaster!} and the Disney Magic has the Aquadunk.  In addition to pools and slides, there are hot tubs and splash pad areas.  Oh and don’t forget about the adults only sections where there are pools and hot tubs just for the grown ups!
  6. Exercise!  Ok, ok this isn’t really my thing but some people enjoy it from what I hear.  Each ship features a great walking/jogging track and all adult guests are welcome to use the fitness room located next to the spa.  Treadmills, stationary bikes, free weights, etc. are all available for guest use.
  7. Staterooms!  Yes, I know they’re required but DCL staterooms are NICE compared to other cruise lines.  Most staterooms feature a split bathroom which makes getting ready in the mornings so much easier!  There’s lots of storage space for all your stuff and your suitcases even fit under the bed to save space.  The beds {oh my goodness, the beds!} are so comfortable!!!
  8. Fun!  Whether your family loves to play basketball, mini golf, trivia, board games, shuffleboard, ping pong, or foosball it’s all included.  And the kids have an entire deck of the ship just for them – parents aren’t allowed!  In the kid’s clubs, your kids can do arts and crafts, play in Andy’s Room, watch Disney movies, play on the giant Magic Playfloor, cook, do science experiments, and so much more!  There’s also plenty of fun for tweens and teens too – they have their own sections on the ship.
  9. Castaway Cay!  If I could choose anywhere to live the rest of my life, it would be at Castaway Cay in a cabana.  This island is Disney’s private paradise complete with family beaches, an adult beach, BBQ restaurants, waterslides, a splash pad, a kid’s club, a RunDisney 5k {the only free RunDisney event you’ll find!} and a sports area.  Each cruise we take, our day at Castaway Cay is the absolute best day – you can relax on the beach or play in the water or explore the island.
  10. Food!  No cruise is complete without delicious and endless amounts of food, right?  Well, DCL is no exception.  From the buffet restaurant to food stations by the pool to {FREE} room service to main rotational dining, you will not go hungry onboard Disney ships.  Sodas, water, Joffrey’s coffee and tea are always available for free {no soda cards here!} and if you like to enjoy an adult beverage, their Drink of the Day is very reasonably priced.  DCL takes great pride in the quality of their food options and it shows – each restaurant features delicious food and you can order as much of it as you want.  Myself, I always orders at least 2 appetizers.  And of course, I need to sample all the deserts – for research of course. 😉
  11. Towels and Lifejackets! This may seem like a small thing but as a mom, the less I have to pack for my family the better. DCL provides towels all over the pool decks as well as life jackets for your kiddos. There’s no paying for towels or “checking them out” with your keycard. Just grab what you need and put them in the bin when you’re done. Same goes for Lookout Cay and Castaway Cay too!

I really could go on and on and on about how amazing cruising with Disney is, but you really have to experience it firsthand to know how awesome it is.

I would love to help your family plan a Disney Cruise!  Typically, itineraries are available to book 1.5 years out and as the ships fill up, the prices go up too.  Email me to start planning your Magical Family Vacation!
